For a long long time I've wanted to visit Edinburgh, and as my friend is at Uni in St, Andrews which is only about an hour away from Edinburgh I decided to go an visit. First it started with a car journey, two trains and a bus but after about 8 hours I finally made it. (+ Laptop, book and music)On the first night I was eager to do something so suggested we go out for dinner, Zizzi called and we had a delicious meal, (Calzone, excuse the diet) and caught up. Already in love with this pretty little town we headed back for an early night ready for the few days ahead.
DAY 2// ST ANDREWS//

S.
St Andrews is a pretty little town, that thrives mostly because of the University, the fact that it's where it all started for Kate and Wills means its practically heaving with Americans. We started the day with breakfast at a little cafe called The North Point, (which calls itself the cafe where Kate met Wills) if you're ever there try the pancakes & Maple syrup with a pot of tea, most gorgeous breakfast ever.
The town itself is fairly small and took no longer than a day to have a look around. What I liked the most was the amount of food places, the vic, which is a bar was one of the qurkiest, coolest places for a night out Ive seen (and they serve food), If you're ever there try Forgans for an afternoon meal or a little delicatessen called Mitchells where I had one of the best salads I've ever eaten. To top it off, try Janettas Gelato , they serve the best ice cream in town and they were one of the few ice cream shops I'd been to that served pistachio (which won me over instantly). The lack of food pictures is directly related to the fact I was too involved with actually eating the food to take a photo.

DAY3// EDINBURGH//
This is the day I was most excited about, Since watching One day I fell in love with Edinburgh and put it on my list of places to visit. When you say to people that you're going/ have been to Scotland I've found they look at you with a puzzled face and ask why would you go there. The answer is to go to Edinburgh. Its like no other city I've visited in the past, and is completely unique in that way, however much you see something on a video or film you don't really see everything. Walking out of the train station brings you face to face with Topshop and the Scott Monument, look around a little more and you'll see the tall gothic looking buildings across the bridge. And I fell in love.
We began by going to the Scottish National gallery, every city I've been to I always visit art galleries, having studied art up to A Level I love visiting them and well worth it if you like art with a really nice collection, the gardens entrance in this one is also worth a look.
Once you've seen that, head up to the other side of the city, when you exit the Gallery theres a walkway that takes you to the other side of the city and up a few steps, from here we headed to Mary kings Close, a network of streets buried underground when the victorians decided that it wasn't fit for living in and they built what you can see today. They effectively cut off the top of houses and used the existing walls for foundations. this left a time capsule of 200 year old rooms and some complete houses. Well worth a visit and a very surreal experience. After finishing here we made our way down this street and up to the castle.
Edinburgh castle is definitely unique. There is literally no other castle like it and despite the £16 entry fee i thought it was worth it. When you are inside you can see a great hall where kings and queens alike have dined and the Scottish crown jewels are on display here as well. Walk around a little and you'll see the Imperial War Museum which was acually really interesting of war and combat over different time periods. (excuse me: Im a history geek).
