I love visiting art galleries if I feel like I'm having a life crisis. Even if some of the art is mind numbingly boring it's a quiet, peaceful space and great for either thinking a lot or not at all. |

I was in London for an interview, anticipating a new beginning and exciting changes yet couldn't help wonder how far away it all was. I usually spend my 3am worrying about where my life is going and contemplating the meaning of life, but now surrounded by all these young, and old professionals I found myself overthinking every aspect of my life.
I am a self confessed dreamer, I constantly visualise the future, I change my mind incessantly and the 'dream' is forever evolving and changing. How am I ever going to decide on one thing?
There are two answers to this question, one is that you don't have to do just one thing, there are so many opportunities and paths you can take that it seems silly to stick to one thing, doesn't it?
BUT what about building up a career, each time you chop and change you will inevitably start from the bottom, staying in one career and direction doesn't mean boring, you've always got the option to change jobs right?
I am 19, I didn't go to university and up until about two weeks ago I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life, I'm very far away from achieving that but for a very long time I had no focus or direction, I coasted, hoping something would turn up while also fantasising about winning the Euromillions, we can all dream right?
Finding a focus in my life has been one of the hardest things, these are a few things that have helped although it's hard to categorise and I believe to a large extent it is something only you can figure out by yourself.
MAKING A LIFE DECISION
1. Try New Things & Take yourself outside of your comfort zone - This is the most important point. There are so many things I've avoided doing in the past because I was convinced I'd hate it, it's only been more recently that I am doing things even if I think I'd hate them. So far I've been right about 80% of the time. Kayaking for example.
2. Research - This doesn't sound like much, but the internet is a wonderful place and there are SO MANY jobs I was unaware of before I searched them and found them. It's always exciting to find a job you made up in your head actually exists in the real world.
3. Focus - The ability to concentrate on one thing is a skill, but doing so will only be beneficial. Knowing what you want to do helps keep focus. If it is only something you are mildly interested in then you are less likely to succeed in it. Doing something you really love will keep you motivated to do better.
But for now, if you don't know what you want to do, that's okay, there's no rush after all. I strongly believe that the most important thing is to be happy, do whatever it takes to put a smile on your face, life is to be lived and not spent worrying about how you will spend it. Some of the best experiences in my life have arisen out of a spontaneous adventure, so go outside, be happy and worry about your future later.
Are any of you trying to decide what to do with your lives?
